Christmas Nail Designs: 20 Simple Ideas for an Aussie Christmas

Great Christmas nail designs pair a festive colour (classic red, deep green, gold, silver or snowy white) with one detail that catches the light: glitter, a sticker, a charm, or cat eye shimmer pulled into shape with a magnet. Below are 20 Christmas nail ideas, from easy sticker sets to salon add-ons, each with what you’ll need and a few short steps.

In Australia, Christmas lands in summer, so you’ll also find bright, beachy looks and tips to keep your set going to New Year’s Eve. Every design starts with your usual prep and base coat and ends with top coat, cured as each bottle directs. Most use a couple of colours from our Nail Success gel polish range.

Short on time? The gold sticker, tiny stars, silver bells, hibiscus and red toes designs need no nail art skills. Most designs add one or two festive extras, such as gold Christmas stickers, 5D Christmas stickers, or cat eye gel and a cat eye magnet, and our Christmas nail stickers and decorations range has plenty more.

Classic red and gold Christmas nail designs

Red and gold reads as Christmas from across the room, and gold Christmas nails rarely need more than one detail.

Red with gold sticker accents

Glossy red almond Christmas nails with a small gold angel, a gold snowflake and a tiny gold heart

A small gold motif on glossy red looks hand-painted but takes seconds, the quickest route to simple Christmas nails.

You’ll need: Classic Red and gold Christmas stickers, or embossed 5D Christmas stickers for raised detail.

  1. Cure two thin coats of red, 60 seconds each under LED or 120 under UV.
  2. Place a sticker near the tip or cuticle with tweezers and press it down firmly.
  3. Seal with top coat, wrapping the free edge, then cure. On 5D stickers, seal just the edges so the texture stays raised.

Gold tinsel glitter fade

Glossy red and deep green Christmas nails with gold snowflake charms and gold glitter fades, beside a tray of snowflake charms

Pack gold glitter at the tip and let it thin towards the cuticle for a tinsel fade. In the photo it sits on pine green nails, beside glossy red ones topped with gold snowflakes.

You’ll need: gold reflective glitter gel (T038), a nail art sponge, the snowflake tray and Gem Gel.

  1. Cure two coats of Classic Red and pine green (shade 145) on alternate nails.
  2. Sponge glitter gel up from the free edge of the green nails, lighter as you go. Cure, then repeat at the tip.
  3. Top coat and cure, then set a snowflake on each red nail in Gem Gel and cure again.

Gift-wrap nails

Pine green or red with gold tape crossed into a ribbon and a tiny bow where the strips meet. Present nails, minus the paper cuts.

You’ll need: 2mm gold striping tape and red or gold bow stickers, or gold bow charms for longer nails.

  1. Paint two coats of pine green or Classic Red, curing each.
  2. On one or two nails, lay one strip of tape down and one across, trimming both just short of the skin.
  3. Where they cross, add a bow sticker, then top coat and cure, or set a bow charm in Gem Gel afterwards.

Hand-painted Christmas tree

Short red nails with a white accent nail hand-painted with a green glitter Christmas tree, tiny baubles and a gold star

It’s the most hands-on of these Christmas nail art ideas, but only one nail needs a steady hand, and wonky trees look more hand-made.

You’ll need: the Liner Art Gel Christmas pack, dotting tools and gold star stickers.

  1. Paint four nails Classic Red and the accent white (shade 001), cure, then wipe off any sticky layer with Cleanse.
  2. With the green glitter liner’s fine brush, paint a zigzag tree, flash curing for 15 to 30 seconds as you go.
  3. Dot on red, blue or silver glitter baubles, then full cure for 30 to 60 seconds.
  4. Add a gold star on top, then top coat and cure for 60 seconds.

Simple and minimalist Christmas nails

Simple Christmas nails suit short nails, the office and a kitchen-table session. Each needs one or two colours and, at most, one small detail.

Tiny gold stars for short nails

Two or three tiny gold stars near the tip sit on a sheer base that grows out quietly. Our short nail designs have more like this.

You’ll need: Bare Veil rubber base and gold star stickers.

  1. Cure a thin layer of Bare Veil (no separate base coat needed), or a builder gel overlay for extra strength.
  2. Place two or three stars near the tip, slightly off centre.
  3. Wrap the free edge as you top coat, then cure.

Silver bells flash nails

Got a work party and no time for nail art? Silver Fever on most nails and Snow Burst on the ring fingers sparkle softly by day and flash brightly in party photos, thanks to their reflective glitter.

You’ll need: Silver Fever, Snow Burst, Base Coat Gel and Diamond Gel Top Coat, all HEMA-free.

  1. Cure a thin base coat, 30 seconds under LED or 2 minutes under UV.
  2. Paint two thin coats of each shade, curing each one.
  3. Seal with top coat and cure.

Velvet wine with gold leaf

Deep burgundy almond nails, glossy on one hand and velvet matte on the other, above gloss and matte top coat bottles

A velvet-matte wine with gold leaf on one nail looks polished enough for Christmas lunch with the in-laws.

You’ll need: Velvet Wine, a matte top coat and gold leaf foil.

  1. Lay down two thin coats of Velvet Wine, curing each.
  2. Tap a torn flake of gold leaf onto the accent nail and seal it with gloss top coat.
  3. Finish the rest with matte top coat, then cure for 60 seconds.

Can’t pick a finish? Wear gloss on one hand and matte on the other, like the photo.

Chrome and magnetic cat eye nails

Chrome and cat eye shine brightest under party lights. Cat eye needs a magnet to shape its shimmer before curing; our cat eye nails guide walks through the steps.

Glazed pearl snow globe

A pearl chrome glaze over milky white gives the soft shine of a snow globe, and one snowflake on the ring finger finishes it off.

You’ll need: Pearl White Chrome Pigment, chrome sponge applicators and 5D snowflake stickers.

  1. Cure two coats of milky white (shade 100), then tack-free Diamond Gel Top Coat (60 seconds LED or 2 minutes UV).
  2. Buff the pigment on with a sponge until it glows, then brush away the loose powder.
  3. Add the snowflake, top coat again, wrapping the tips, and cure.

Ruby bauble halo

Crimson magnetic cat eye Christmas nails with a glowing bauble-like halo on each nail and a small gold bow charm

Shape crimson cat eye with a circle magnet and each nail glows like a Christmas bauble, with a small gold bow on the ring finger for the ribbon.

You’ll need: Crimson Luxe cat eye, the Circle Halo magnet, gold bow charms and Gem Gel.

  1. One nail at a time, brush on Crimson Luxe and hold the halo magnet over the wet gel until a ring of light appears, then cure.
  2. Build a second coat the same way, then top coat and cure.
  3. On the ring finger, set a bow charm in a dot of Gem Gel near the cuticle and cure.

Evergreen cat eye with gold leaf

Green cat eye pulled into a straight band with a bar magnet makes the tree, and a flake of gold leaf on one nail adds the fairy lights.

You’ll need: green cat eye gel, the Super Strong Magnet Bar and gold leaf foil.

  1. One nail at a time, brush on an even coat and hold the magnet close to the wet gel, then cure.
  2. Repeat with a second coat for a deeper band.
  3. Add torn gold leaf to the accent nail, then top coat every nail and cure.

Swap it: white cat eye swept into a wave with the Magnet 2 Way is as close as most of us get to a white Christmas.

Festive French tips

French tips take Christmas colours well and grow out neatly. Our French tip guide covers the basics; these are the festive twists.

Candy cane French

Thin diagonal stripes of red glitter liner from our Christmas liner pack turn crisp white tips into little candy canes.

You’ll need: French smile line guides, white gel polish and the Liner Art Gel Christmas pack.

  1. Stick on a guide, paint the tip white (shade 001), peel the guide away and cure. Wipe off any sticky layer with Cleanse.
  2. With the red glitter liner’s fine brush, draw three or four thin diagonals across each tip, flash curing for 15 to 30 seconds as you go.
  3. Full cure for 30 to 60 seconds, then top coat and cure.

Gold line French

Christmas French nails with white tips edged in fine gold lines and a gold rhinestone snowflake charm on a sheer pink base

Office-friendly but still festive, this French adds a fine gold line along each smile line.

You’ll need: the Gel Polish French Kit (base, pink, white and top coat) and 1mm gold striping tape.

  1. Paint and cure the kit’s pink, then paint the white tips over a smile line guide, peel it away and cure.
  2. Lay gold tape along each smile line, press it down and trim both ends.
  3. Top coat the whole nail, capping the free edge, and cure.
  4. For sparkle, set a gold snowflake charm in Gem Gel below the smile line and cure.

Salon version: paint gold cat eye tips and pull a glowing smile line with the double-headed scissor magnet.

Red tips and holly berries

Christmas nails with a red French tip, tiny red holly berry dots and a gold glitter ring finger on a sheer nude base

If you can make a dot, you can do this one: red French tips, tiny red holly berries and one gold glitter nail on each hand.

You’ll need: Classic Red, Golden Glitz and dotting tools.

  1. Paint red French tips on the middle fingers using smile line guides, then cure.
  2. On the index and little fingers, skip the tip and dot small clusters of red berries with the small end of a dotting tool, then cure.
  3. Give the ring fingers two coats of Golden Glitz, curing each, then top coat every nail and cure.

Aussie summer Christmas nails

Most Christmas nail inspo is made for snow. Here it’s more likely to be 30 degrees with a swim after lunch, so these Aussie Christmas nails trade frost for sea blues, hibiscus and sunsets.

Beach Christmas cat eye

Aussie Christmas nails in bright blue magnetic cat eye with gold seashell charms and a starfish, on beach sand

Christmas morning at the beach starts with bright blue cat eye pulled into a wave with a magnet, plus gold seashells and a starfish on one nail.

You’ll need: bright blue cat eye gel (shade 18), the Magnet 2 Way, gold seashell charms, shell and starfish stickers and Gem Gel.

  1. One nail at a time, brush on a thin coat and sweep the magnet over the wet gel until a wave of light forms, then cure.
  2. Add a second coat the same way. Press the starfish onto the accent nail, then top coat every nail and cure.
  3. Set two seashells beside the starfish in a dot of Gem Gel and cure.

Red hibiscus nails

Classic red with a white or gold hibiscus on two nails gives Christmas colours a tropical holiday feel. Lovely on toes, too.

You’ll need: Classic Red and white or gold hibiscus stickers.

  1. Paint and cure two coats of red.
  2. Smooth a hibiscus onto the ring and middle fingers from the centre out.
  3. Seal every nail with top coat, capping the free edge, and cure.

Christmas Day sunset ombre

This one borrows the sky over a late Christmas barbecue: orange-red melting into fiery shimmer, with a fleck of gold leaf.

You’ll need: Tangerine Flame, Sunset Fire, a nail art sponge and gold leaf foil.

  1. Lay down two coats of Tangerine Flame, curing each.
  2. Sponge Sunset Fire from the tip halfway up the nail and cure, then repeat at the tip for a deeper fade.
  3. Finish one nail with a small flake of gold leaf, then seal with top coat and cure.

Red toes for thongs weather

Feet on warm sand with glossy red Christmas toenails, red glitter big toes and a small white snowflake

Feet are out all summer, so give them the Christmas treatment: red on every toe, red glitter on the big toes and one snowflake.

You’ll need: Classic Red, Holiday Sparkle, 5D snowflake stickers and toe separators.

  1. Pop in the separators, then cure two coats of Classic Red.
  2. Layer Holiday Sparkle over the big toes and cure.
  3. Press a snowflake onto one big toe, then top coat and cure.

Quick Christmas add-ons for nail techs

December books fill fast, and Christmas-themed nails shouldn’t blow out your appointment times. These three add detail in minutes and work as well on Christmas acrylic nails as on gel polish.

Stamped snowflakes

One press of the stamper covers a whole nail in fine snowflakes, silver over red or white over deep green.

You’ll need: Christmas stamping plates, Silver Flower or White Lotus stamping gel and a clear stamper and scraper.

  1. Peel the blue film off new plates, and wipe any sticky layer off your cured Classic Red or pine green nails.
  2. Spread stamping gel over a snowflake image and scrape it across.
  3. Lift the design with the stamper and roll it onto the nail.
  4. Cure, then top coat and cure.

Snowflake foil nails

Foil does the fiddly work, pressing colourful snowflakes onto a white base with no painting needed. The Christmas motif foils (trees, Santa, snowmen and bows) work the same way.

You’ll need: colourful snowflake foils and Foil Transfer Gel, over a cured white base.

  1. Brush on a thin layer of transfer gel and cure for 3 minutes in a lamp of at least 36W (timing varies by lamp).
  2. Press the foil on firmly, then peel the film away gently.
  3. Finish with top coat and cure.

Foil not sticking? See our tips for applying nail foils.

Christmas charm accent nail

Long almond Christmas nails with raised red rhinestone poinsettias, green leaves and clear crystals on a sheer nude base

Load one accent nail per hand with baubles, candy canes, bells or snowflakes, and keep the rest plain gloss. For poinsettias like these, cluster red rhinestones into petals on a sheer nude base, with green ones as leaves.

You’ll need: the Christmas charms wheel or 3D charms tray, Gem Gel and a wax stone picker.

  1. Top coat and cure the whole set first.
  2. Spread a thin layer of Gem Gel on the accent nail and place each piece with the picker.
  3. Cure, then run a little more Gem Gel around raised edges and cure again.

How to make Christmas nails last

When a Christmas set lets go, it’s nearly always at the edges rather than in the art.

  • Prep properly. Push back cuticles, buff off the shine and clear away dust.
  • Start with a strong base. Our Base Coat Gel helps stop lifting by bonding gel polish to the natural nail, and it’s HEMA-free.
  • Keep coats thin. Cap the free edge with every layer.
  • Seal the art. Stickers, foil and tape need top coat, and charms hold far better in Gem Gel than in air-dry glue.
  • Time it right. Gel polish is made to wear for weeks, so a set done the week before Christmas can last to New Year’s Eve.
  • Keep bottles cool. Never leave gels in the sun or a hot car.
  • Be gentle. Wear gloves for the washing-up, and soak gel off rather than peeling it.

Christmas nail FAQs

What colours suit Christmas nails?

The classic Christmas nail colours are red, green, gold, silver and white, with deep wine and pine green for a richer look. Pair one main colour with one sparkle, like red with gold glitter, or try aqua and sunset orange for a summer Christmas. Start with our red gel polish range.

What Christmas nail designs are trending in 2026?

For Christmas nails in 2026, cat eye is the look to try, with red, green or white shimmer pulled into bands, waves, halos and smile lines by the newer magnet shapes. Glazed pearl chrome, gold-line French tips and tiny gold accents are close behind. Browse our cat eye gel polishes and magnets.

Which Christmas nail designs suit an Aussie summer?

Bright, beachy designs suit a summer Christmas in Australia: blue cat eye swept into a wave with a magnet, red with hibiscus stickers, a sunset ombre or glittery red toes. There’s no waiting for polish to dry before a swim, because gel cures in the lamp. Our Nail Success gel polish is made for up to four weeks of wear, and it’s HEMA-free.

Should I use gel polish, builder gel or acrylic for Christmas nails?

Gel polish, builder gel and acrylic all work for Christmas nails, because the design sits on top. Gel polish suits most natural nails, a builder gel (BIAB) overlay strengthens short or bendy nails, and acrylic or soft gel tips add length for statement sets with charms and 3D art.

What can I buy a nail tech for Christmas?

Buy a nail tech something practical for their Christmas bookings: a cat eye magnet set for lines, circles, hearts and flowers, the Liner Art Gel Christmas pack for hand-painted art, or Christmas stamping plates for fast, detailed designs. For home nail lovers, our gift ideas range has colour sets and kits ready to wrap.
